Generality of the Artemisia Plant:
The roots of the plant have a sedative action, able to relax the nervous system, therefore they are indicated in case of overexcitation and general fatigue. The flowering tops of Artemisia contain essential oils that give the plant antispasmodic action (attenuates muscle spasms in case of menstrual pain and dysmenorrhea) and emmenagogic action (regulates menstrual flow in case of amenorrhea and irregularity of the menstrual cycle). The presence in the phytocomplex essential oils in addition to making it an effective antiseptic remedy and expectorant in case of cough, is also used against intestinal problems, while for the eupeptic action is used in difficult digestion, especially in the formulation of natural liqueurs. The leaves are alternate, lanceolate, incised-toothed, green and glabrous above, whitish and tomentose below. The inflorescences are composed of numerous small white or pink flowers gathered in long racemes. Among the herbal remedies based on Artemisia annua we find herbal teas to prepare as infusions or decoctions. Artemisia annua teas are recommended to promote digestion and reduce intestinal swelling. With Artemisia vulgaris, instead, a hydroalcoholic extract is prepared to regulate the menstrual cycle. Finally, there are natural artemisinin-based supplements for sale that are used in case of malaria and infections caused by parasites.
