Generalities Vinca plant:
Vinca is a perennial plant grown as an annual, very rustic and resistant to high temperatures. Vinca, also called periwinkle or periwinkle of the Madacascar or child's eye or betrothed, has an erect bearing, branched with a herbaceous or woody structure. It tends to form very neat bushes. The shiny and bright leaves together with the intense colored flowers also with colored eye such as white and pink with red center make this plant excellent for embellishing flower beds, borders, balconies and terraces. The various shades of color of the flowers, brought together, allow you to compose prominent areas for your garden. The bush of a single plant can reach a diameter of 60-80 cm. In literature, vinca is considered to be the symbol of friendship and loyalty. In many countries, it was traditional to spread flowers in front of the spouses, hence the name "newlyweds" or "betrothed". Periwinkles seem to have different therapeutic properties: digestive, anti-inflammatory, antihypertensive. It has a substance, vincamine, which would act on vascular disorders, typical of old age. In any case, in the use of this plant, consult your doctor as it contains some substances that can be toxic if ingested inappropriately.
Cultivation and Plant Care Vinca:
The cultivation of the periwinkle does not present major difficulties. They are plants that need a lot of light, full sun and a lot of air so both in summer and in winter, assure the plant as much light as possible. The periwinkle plant should be watered abundantly from spring and for most of autumn taking care not to stagnate the water in the saucer as it does not tolerate water stagnation. In autumn and winter, water is watered enough to keep the soil moist. Since the periwinkle is a plant that grows a lot, it must be fertilized every two weeks throughout the vegetative period, that is, from spring to autumn. During the other periods the fertilizations are suspended.
