La pianta di Cupressus macrocarpa ‘Goldcrest’ appartiene alla famiglia Cupressaceae ed è di tipo arboreo. La pianta ha un altezza non troppo elevata, è compresa tra 1,7 e 2,5 metri, l’espansione va da 1,5 a 2,2 metri. Per raggiungere il suo massimo vigore sono necessari mediamente 10-20 anni. La cultivar ha foglie di tipo persistente. E' un arbusto sempreverde caratterizzato dal portamento conico stretto da giovane, con l’età la base si allarga, ed è dotato di ramificazioni dense ed erette, fusto bruno-rossastro, molto resinoso.
