Generalities Plant Bignonia Grandiflora:
The Bignonia grandiflora (Campis grandiflora) belongs to the Bignoniacee family. It is a plant with great decorative value, especially thanks to the flowers with the characteristic shape of a big trompet. This plant is not equipped with a highly developed root system, it has in fact only a few aerial roots. Being a climbing plant, it therefore needs an external structure on which to cling and develop in length. If placed on a wooden or metal trellis it can easily reach heights ranging between 4 and 6 meters. The plant develops innumerable lianas, these grow rapidly along the walls, but unlike many other climbing plants they do not create any damage, on the contrary. Bignonia contributes, only with its presence, to keeping the walls in optimal conditions, for example by absorbing excess humidity. Climbing plants, and therefore also Bignonia, must be anchored to a trellis or a wall in order to grow in length by climbing.
Cultivation and Care of Bignonia Grandiflora Plant:
The optimal exposure recommended for growing the bignonia is against a wall facing east. Air currents should be avoided. As for the needs of the soil, this plant needs a well-drained, very fertile substrate, rich in nutrients and organic substances to promote its growth. We recommend fertilizing in spring or autumn, using mature manure to be placed at the base of the plant. Alternatively, slow release granular fertilizer can be used. The operation must be repeated every 3 to 4 months. This plant should be pruned; it is usually recommended to carry out the operation with extreme vigor, possibly at the end of winter. All dry, weaker or partially damaged branches must be removed. Pruning will favor the spring development of the shoots which then, in the late season, will be able to give a lush cascade of flowers. During the summer the plant needs continuous and abundant watering, while still avoiding stagnant water. With the arrival of winter, irrigation can be suspended, in such a way as to allow the plant to enter vegetative rest.
