Generalities Plant Bignonia Capensis:

The Bignonia capensis is an evergreen climbing plant with dark green leaves that offers a wonderful lasting flowering during all summer, from orange to scarlet, very showy and decorative. Generalities Plant Bignonia Capensis:

The Bignonia Capensis is a sarmentose rather than climbing plant, which forms long woody shoots that need support to lean on, and which must be guided and tied. If drastically pruned in late winter, it can also be maintained as a vigorous evergreen bush. The leaves, normally evergreen, in case of intense cold below 0 ° C, fall, and the plant behaves like a deciduous leaf. The flowers are raceme inflorescences gathered in apical and axillary clusters. The funnel-shaped or tubular flowers are red-orange in color, with a corolla divided into lobes: the upper one is erect while the others are patent or reflected. A long and visible pistil appears from the corolla of flowers. The fruits are long green bean-like pods that protect numerous small winged seeds inside. Bignonia capensis blooms from summer until late autumn.

Cultivation and Care of Bignonia Capensis Plant:

Bignonia prefers bright and sunny places for many hours a day. It doesn't tolerate low temperatures and freezing winds. Although it grows well in any type of soil, it loves loose soil, rich in organic substance, well drained and non-calcareous. It is a plant that is generally satisfied with rainwater but during periods of prolonged drought and in summer it is advisable to water it regularly and abundantly. To encourage flowering and the emission of new shoots, periodically administer fertilizer to the base of the bush slow release granular specific for flowering plants. Pruning should be done during the vegetative rest period of the plant, preferably in February. The longest and most disordered branches are shortened; those dried or damaged by the cold are cut off at the base.
