Generalities Purple passionflower plant:
Purple Passionflower is a robust plant that can reach 4 meters in height. In reality, Violacea is a hybrid born in 1824 from the cross between Racemosa and Caerulea and, like the latter, has excellent resistance to cold. It does not produce many fruits and those few that reach maturity are almost empty inside them. It has a dark purple-violet bloom. Passiflora is a very common plant in European gardens, due to its charm and its large bright colored flowers. It is an ornamental plant with a climbing development. It is known and appreciated in herbal medicine for its beneficial properties. But it is also grown in pots or in the garden for ornamental purposes. When in 1600 the plant was imported into Europe, it was immediately appreciated for its characteristics as antispasmodic and sedative. Passionflower has, in fact, a powerful sedative action that affects the central nervous system and especially on the sleep centers. In fact, this plant is very useful in the treatment of insomnia (not that of a psychiatric nature) and is capable of causing a sleep phase similar to the physiological one. Among its beneficial properties, moreover, passionflower is very useful in the treatment of abdominal pain caused by anxiety and stress because it helps to relax the smooth muscle and can also be used as a pain reliever to be used during menstrual pain.
Cultivation and Care Plant Passiflora Violacea:
Passionflower plants should be placed in a sunny position, preferably in the south. In any case, the light must be excellent and abundant. They like sheltered positions without too much wind by fixing them to wooden pylons and it is important that there is always a good exchange of air, paying attention to the currents of cold air that are in no way welcome. From spring and throughout the summer the Passionflower should be watered abundantly so that the soil remains constantly humid (not wet) and without leaving water stagnation in the saucer. During the winter, water more moderately, always keeping the soil slightly humid. We must be very careful, if the temperatures drop, not to stagnate the water. This would lead to an excessive drop in temperature at a radical level which could be fatal for the plant. A good soil is essential to ensure a flourishing growth and a good flowering. The first thing to keep in mind is that it must have the primary feature of allowing the rapid draining of excess water.
