Generalities Passiflora Caerulea plant:
Among the different varieties of Passiflora that we find on the market, Passiflora Cerulea is the most appreciated as an ornamental plant so as to be the most widespread and cultivated species. Like the other plants of the genus passiflora, also the passiflora caerulea is an evergreen with simple or lobed lanceolate leaves of an intense green color.
Its branches stretch and cover walls, railings, grids, pergolas. They manage to cover large areas up to a height of more than six meters. What stands out most about the passiflora caerulea are its very particular flowers: the crown is 8-10 cm wide, dominated by the corolla of petals. The flowers stay alive all summer. From the flowers ripen, in a scalar way, some fruits. The fruits of passiflora caerulea are orange oval berries that contain numerous leathery seeds wrapped in a gelatinous pulp. The edible fruit of the passion flower is called "passion fruit", known worldwide as Passion fruit even if its correct name is maracuja. The flowers of the passion flower have a shape that recalls that of the crown of thorns placed on the head of Christ and for this its meaning is linked to the Passion. Passiflora is nicknamed the Passion Flower because of its regular sunburst of filaments that are colored purple, blue and white.
Cultivation and Care Plant Passiflora Caerulea:
The advice on the cultivation of passionflower applies as much for the caerulea species, as for all the other species of the passionflower genus, it buys those with edible fruits. Passionflower is a rustic and very resistant plant, it does not require much care and its cultivation is within everyone's reach. Choose a sunny location, even partially. Plant the passionflower in an area sheltered from the wind and winter cold. It should be watered frequently in the summer, without exaggerating with water (passionflower is sensitive to water stagnation). For pot cultivation, choose medium-textured soil that is not too compact. Administer a fertilizer for flowering plants, preferably in liquid form. Light pruning is required to maintain an orderly appearance of the plant. Shorten excessively long branches and sever weak or damaged branchesi.
