Generalità Albero di Amarena:

The Chinese mandarin, Cumquat or Kumquat or Fortunella is a citrus fruit grown in pots and in the garden as a fruit plant and above all as an ornamental plant thanks to its orange fruits that stand out in the green color of the leaves. Rutaceae family, with a development originating in southern China which holds the world record for cultivation. The trunk is small in size. The foliage has numerous woody twigs covered with small glossy and leathery leaves of an intense green color. During the flowering period, clusters of small white and fragrant flowers similar to those of the mandarin appear on the branches. The oval or rounded fruits with a delicately sour taste are not poisonous, but rather they are entirely edible (even the peel) and are excellent for the preparation of refreshing drinks, fruit salads and an excellent liqueur with a pleasantly citrus flavor. The fruits persist for a long time on the plant and their pulp, divided into 4 or 5 segments, contains two or five seeds. The skin of the fruits is sweet, very aromatic and edible.

Chinese Mandarin Tree Cultivation and Care:

The Chinese mandarin prefers bright and sunny places. It does not fear the cold but it is good to protect it from winds and winter frost with breathable fabric. If grown in pots at home it should be kept away from heat sources. It loves loose, medium-textured, fertile and well-drained soils. Watering: regular and constant at least once a week during periods of prolonged drought to ensure good fruiting and regular fruit ripening. In the winter-spring period, the plant grown in the open ground is satisfied with rainwater. Before flowering, give nitrogen fertilizers. During the year, fertilize with phosphorus and potassium-based fertilizers. Every year at the end of winter, once the fruit harvest is finished, administer mature manure to ensure the Kumquat the necessary nutrients for its development.
