Generality of the Buxus Faulkner plant:

Boxwood is an indispensable and almost irreplaceable rustic plant for creating small hedges and borders. It is an evergreen shrub with glossy green foliage, with a very compact habit, used for the construction of borders and low hedges. It grows well in any terrain and in any light conditions. Very resistant to cold. It is the plant par excellence of classical gardens, Italian or French. It is a very rustic plant, withstands low temperatures: in very intense cold the plant produces a sort of natural antifreeze and the leaves can take on a reddish color, which will return to bright green.

Generality of the Buxus Faulkner plant:

Buxus Faulkner is one of the most prized varieties of boxwood. In fact, the “Faulkner” resists the cold very well and is less subject to parasitic attacks than other types of boxwood. It bears well any type of pruning, in fact, it is used to create forms of “topiary”, even if its most common use is to create very compact hedges and borders. Although the Faulkner box can reach a maximum height of 3 meters, with a diameter of 2.5 meters, it is recommended to use it for hedges that must reach a maximum height of no more than 1.5 meters. It has a medium-speed growth and can be exposed directly to the sun or in partial shade areas. If used as a hedge plant, it is advisable to plant it at a distance of 30 cm from each other. It prefers fertile, well-drained soils. In case of really intense cold, during the winter, it takes on a barely perceptible reddish color, which disappears with the arrival of spring.

Buxus Faulkner Plant Cultivation and Care:

Boxwood is also well suited to growing in pots, it is better if the container is in terracotta or another breathable material. For planting in pots it will be necessary to create a bottom with draining material (expanded clay, leca, volcanic lapilli, pumice, or other), then use a soft, medium-textured substrate, rich in organic substance, to complete the filling of the pot around the plant. Immediately after planting, irrigate very abundantly, almost to the point of flooding the soil. Then provide water to keep the soil slightly moist at all times, as needed. Provide plenty of water for the plant only when the soil is nearly dry. The worst enemy of plants is water stagnation: do not water until the water supplied with the previous irrigation has been absorbed by the plant!
